Spectrolite, Labradorite and Moonstone
Spectrolite, labradorite and moonstone, all varieties of the Feldspar mineral, are semi-precious gemstones with an iridescent play of color. Common medium grade gray to black labradorite and spectrolite show an iridescent play of blue, green and yellow. The color in labradorite and spectrolite are due to light interference by thin lamellae (parallel layers) within the stone. Spectrolite is the rarest and most valuable variety of feldspar. It is only found in south-eastern Finland in a condense area and in very tiny pockets scattered around Finland. The most valuable and rarest spectrolite displays an amazing combination of shades of red, magenta, pink, purple, violet, bright teal blue, green, yellow and orange.... virtually the entire color spectrum. Spectrolite is used as healing stone that aids with meditation. It is said to provide clarity of thought and to dispel negativity. As a healing stone, blue-green spectrolite is most often used to assist with sleeping disturbances. Some people refer to this gem as the "Sleeping Stone". It is wrapped in a scarf and placed under the pillow overnight for a night of deep, restful sleep.
